That is my attempt at an ode to the famous editorial printed in the New York Sun first in 1897 and reprinted every year since then in newspapers around the country. I love the idea behind Yes, there is a Virginia! and was excited to attend the Macy’s Believe event at Towns Center Mall in support of Make a Wish. We saw Santa arrive (on a pretty snazzy bus) and listened to him read a rousing edition of “Twas the Night Before Christmas”. My kids were able to get special balloon animals made, get their face painted, and mail their letters to Santa in the special Macy’s mailbox. For every letter put into the mailboxes at Macy’s stores across the country, Macy’s will donate $1 to help Make-a-Wish (up to $1 million dollars). Macy’s will then deliver the letters to the Post Office, who will of course send them up to the North Pole.
Though the kids didn’t get to sit on Santa’s lap this time around, (the line was just too long for my hungry, tired crew) they were happy to just be in his presence. I want my kids to believe in the miracle of Santa Claus for as long as I can and Macy’s is making that a little easier. As of December 21, 2012 they have received just shy of 900,000 letters. Let’s help them reach the 1 million letter goal!
