Looking for some educational shows for kids on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney Plus, Apple TV+ or basically anywhere? Me too. Since we are spending ALL the time at home, I am letting my kids watch way more TV than usual. However, I’ve found some good options that are educational and entertaining all at once.
Sure I make the kids get outside everyday. I force them to read actual books. I bake and craft with them. But I have things to do too! So I combed our streaming services to find educational shows for kids on Netflix and beyond that I could feel good about them watching…and they actually want to watch. In addition to streaming shows, there are movies to stream too! Between awesome movies being released early to Disney Plus or others coming straight from the theaters to Blue-Ray/DVD, there are tons of options.
When you are on the move so much, you don’t often have time to sit down for all the new movies out on digital release or on the streaming channels. Now, we do!

New Family Movies Streaming
Spies in Disguise
The first day of our homeschool odyssey, I received the movie Spies in Disguise. The boys were so excited to see this movie. It came out at just the right time. Exciting for the kids, fun for adults, and 101 minutes of animated comedic action to fill these long days. You can buy it online or rent it from Amazon Prime, Vudu and other streaming services.
Call of the Wild
Since this movie is adapted from the novel by Jack London, you can maybe coerce the kids into reading the book. Or turn on closed captioning and call it reading time. In Call of the Wild, Buck, the big-hearted dog will melt your heart as he is transplanted to the exotic wilds of the Canadian Yukon during the Gold Rush of the 1890s. See, history too! Call of the Wild is streaming online now. It’s available to rent on Amazon Prime for as low as $5.99.
Onward
I signed up for Disney+ just so we could watch Onward for free. They got me! It was worth it though. This is an adorable movie that really pushes the kids to understand the importance of family. I will say that if you have a parent suffering from Covid-19 or another scary illness, this may hit too close to home right now.
Frozen II
Let it go! That’s my new anthem of this coronavirus quarantine, so it’s fitting that Frozen II is now out and available for all to stream. It’s cute and funny and boasts a powerful message about perseverance and finding ones place in the world. It too is available on Disney+ for free.
Date Night Movie: Downhill
Downhill stars two of my favorite actors: Will Ferrell and Julia Louis-Dreyfus. They are always hilarious. This movie has a more poignant message about marriage than I thought it would but it’s a great little source of entertainment. Barely escaping an avalanche during a family ski vacation in the Alps, a married couple is thrown into disarray as they are forced to reevaluate their lives and how they feel about each other.
