Today is Veteran’s Day. It is the day to honor those who have served, continue to serve, as well as those who support those who serve. I know I am forever indebted to these honorable men and women, for they have the courage to do the things necessary to protect our country.
Many veterans need more than my appreciation though. They need more than a hand shake and a quiet thank you when I pass them in uniform. Veterans and their families need support! This Veteran’s Day, I am working with SCANA Energy to help them promote their fantastic program to not only honor veterans and their families, but actually help them as well. SCANA Energy has partnered with United Military Care, Inc. (UMC) a non-for-profit committed to providing for and strengthening military families, to make a real, tangible difference in the lives of veterans with their “Heat for Heroes” campagin.
Did you know that:
- Georgia has 72,000 active duty service members and an estimated 772,832 veterans
- 49 percent of all military families claim financial issues as a top stressor during service
- There are 138,833 estimated homeless veterans in Georgia
- 13 calls per month to United Military Care, Inc (on average) requesting utility assistance
- More than 8,750 Georgia military families and veterans served by UMC to-date

Join SCANA Energy and UMC as they team up again this year to help military

For every like, share or comment on the Facebook post or album of military families and their stories, SCANA Energy will increase its donation by an additional dollar (up to a $10,000 total donation). In addition to instagramming photos of the flag flying high or waxing poetic about how appreciative you are this Veteran’s Day, share (or even just “like”) one of these stories to provide more money for these heroes who have definitely earned it.
