Do you mom shame others? Do you mom shame yourself? *raises hand* I recently went on Good Day Atlanta to talk about my work in progress.
We all think we aren’t good enough, have enough, do enough. Us moms have a bad case of the “shoulds”.
We “should” on ourselves all the time.
I should buy organic.
I should bake the birthday treats myself.
Or, maybe I should know my 7th grader’s advisor’s name and birthday as well as be thinner, smarter, more fashionable. I should be better.
It’s exhausting.
But what about giving ourselves and others grace? What about believing the best case scenario for the moms around us? Have we forgotten that we are all on Team Mom? We aren’t competitors. We aren’t rivals. Moms, we are all on the same team!
No matter the choices each of us has made for our lives, we all want the same things for our families. We want them to be healthy and happy. We want kids to get a good education and feel good about themselves as they are getting it. As parents, we want to shine our love on the people we adore. HOW we do that doesn’t matter. It really doesn’t.
Let’s stop with the mom shaming.
Let’s do it together. No more judgemental eye rolls. Let’s commit to no more shunning that one mom. No more excluding moms from our gossip circle. Make the circle wide, friends. Let everyone in. We all have a place. Even you. You too, no matter how much of an outsider you feel like sometimes, have a place on Team Mom.
I vow to do better. Will you join me?
