Stop the cycle of domestic abuse one Purple Purse at a time

The Allstate Foundation is helping the YWCA support domestic violence victims through their Purple Purse campaign. 

In the last hour, 145 women were victims of domestic violence. Today, three women will die because of it. Yet, sadly, domestic violence is not often discussed. More than 1 out of 3 adults have never discussed this issue among friends. Well I’m here to break that cycle. I’m here to stand up for the the battered spirits, the beaten down dreams and the broken bodies. I’m here to stand with women who are trying to break out of the cycle of abuse. I’m here to support the Allstate Foundation’s Purple Purse campaign.

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and The Allstate Foundation’s Purple Purse is a symbol representing a woman’s way to escape the cycle of abuse by gaining financial independence. Now in its third year, The Allstate Foundation’s Purple Purse campaign has pledged to donate up to $350,000 to the YWCA for programs designed at assisting survivors of domestic violence and other women in need. And you can help!

The Allstate Foundation will be distributing 1,300 purple purses filled with domestic violence information and facts throughout the U.S. Each purse has a goal of being passed between family, friends, community leaders, celebrities, media, and Allstate employees and agents to spark important conversations and raise awareness about domestic violence. The Allstate Foundation will donate $5 each time a purse is passed and checked-in at PurplePurse.com.

The Allstate Foundation will also donate $5 every time a virtual Purple Purse is shared. In addition, you can visit PurplePurse.com to follow the Purple Purses on their journey around the country, track the YWCA’s progress toward their goal to earn $350,000 from The Allstate Foundation and get tips to help you start talking about domestic violence.

Since the lack of financial knowledge and resources is the number one indicator of whether a domestic violence victim will stay, leave or return to an abusive relationship. Having financial independence is an absolute key in saving a woman (and her children) from abusive environments. The money The Allstate Foundation will donate will be used by the YWCA for programs aimed at helping domestic violence survivors to stop the cycle of abuse.
