I received a complimentary set of the full line of Aveda’s Smooth Infusion products to try out and report back. Of course getting a bunch of good hair products wouldn’t color my opinion though. And my opinion is that this Smooth Infusion line is fantastic for my curly, biracial hair…but not for what you think.
Although the Aveda Smooth Infusion line is designed to help women get their hair straighter in an easier and faster manner and keep their hair straighter longer, I loved it for it’s curl loosening properties. For me, my curls were not quite so tight but yet were more defined. My hair hung longer down my back and didn’t puff up once the curls dried. And the humidity the South is known for didn’t have much of an effect. It was also SUPER soft and it smelled wonderful!
For those of us with curly locks, finding a product to loosen the curl pattern without damaging our hair or putting chemicals on our manes is like finding the Holy Grail. I used the Smooth Infusion shampoo and conditioner in the shower. And then I finished the curls off with the Smooth Infusion Naturally Straight cream and the Smooth Infusion Naturally Straight Glossing Straightener. I pulled it into a bun to sleep and just loved the look when I put it down the next day. I was impressed with how the system helped to reduce frizz too.
The Smooth Infusion line is designed to progressively straighten curls with every use. From Aveda:
- As you blow-dry your hair, plant-derived fibers help create a locking layer to help hold your hair straight
- Organic cassava root helps form a barrier against intense humidity to help you forget about frizz
- Straight styling becomes faster and easier
- After 5 consecutive applications of naturally straight, hair will stay straight for up to 3 washes!
It might have been my lack of practice straightening my hair, my hair texture, or even the weather (hot and humid) so the Smooth Infusion line didn’t seem to help me get the just-went-to-the-blowdry-bar look but I’m going to keep trying it. And I’m going to bring the products to my hairdresser next time I go too so she can do it right. In the meantime, I’ll just enjoy my looser curls that someone said look like Beyonce’s weave. And if that’s not a compliment…I don’t know what is.
Aveda’s Smooth Infusion line can be bought at Aveda.com. Full-size products start around $21 but I suspect they will last a long time as you don’t need a ton of product to make it work.

Your hair looks fabulous! I’ve been digging this line, too! It made my hair straighter with not much effort! Of course, it went up like an hour later because somebody thinks hair is a toy!
