When Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta asked me to run their Miracle Marathon I was wary. A fun one-mile run? Awesome! A 5k? Sure! A marathon? Umm…
But I needn’t have worried. The Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s Miracle Marathon is a 27.2 mile run spread out over 27 days in October. Starting October 1, I commit to running, walking, zumba’ing, or the equivalent one mile every day. They estimate one mile to be about 20 minutes of activity. Perhaps I’ll take a few laps around the mall. Maybe I’ll sneak in some mileage while pushing the stroller. Actually running might work too. The awesome thing about the Miracle Marathon is that anyone…and I mean anyone…can do it.
So…won’t you join me? Become part of my Mamalicious Maria team! We can encourage each other and have some fun with this too. Maybe we’ll even lose some pounds. (A girl can dream.) If you can’t commit then would you donate to the cause? $2, $20, $200…whatever you have will be so very much appreciated. One hundred percent of the proceeds go back to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. The way I look at it, helping them now means they may be able to help my kids later.
MORE INFORMATION
Miracle Marathon is the marathon anyone can finish, while helping Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta! It is a 27.2-day virtual fundraising campaign, starting October 1, encouraging participants to walk, run, skate or engage in any other physical forward motion for one mile per day at their leisure, and fundraise to help the patients treated at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.
Each day, challenges or motivational messages will be sent to help you on your journey. Participants will also receive a Miracle Marathon bracelet, mile tracker magnet and 27.2 sticker for their car.
The first 26 days are completed on your own—at a time and place that you choose. On day 27, the final 1.2 miles will be completed as a group, virtually, as all participants will start their last 1.2 miles at the same time. It’s a 27.2 mile Miracle Marathon – a marathon, plus an extra mile “for the kids.”
