Back in August, I started a 4 week weight loss challenge to motivate me to start to shed some of the “baby” weight I’ve been carrying around since I had my first baby (6 years ago!). I used a bunch of tools that are available to everyone to see if and how they would help me stay on track. And the good news is that I did stay on track! It has taken me forever to write about it, but I won the challenge! In addition to my personal challenge, I signed up for a “diet bet” to see if I could lose 4% of my body weight over 4 weeks. I paid my $30, and if I won (was able to lose the 4%), then I’d get a portion of the pot that everyone who did the diet bet with me paid into. It was not easy, but money is a good influence, and I did it! I lost more than 4%, actually, coming in a little over 10 lbs thinner at the end of the 4 weeks.
One thing I also did was to conquer my fear of the scale. I have been using the Aria scale by FitBit, which wirelessly syncs to my account. So, every time I got on the scale, that number was recorded. I saw it when I logged into my Fitbit, MyFitnessPal app, or my RunKeeper app. They are all connected. But seeing it so much helped me understand that it is just a number.
The weight on the scale doesn’t define me.
In my mid-challenge post, I wrote that my old Fitbit wasn’t working, so Verizon sent me the new Fitbit flex! Yay! I can’t tell you how many nights I walked in place with this piece of black rubber on my wrist before going to bed just so I could hit that magic 10,000 step goal. I’m so competitive that I literally could not sleep until I hit it. Those extra steps each day really add up! I LOVE my Fitbit, though I think I’ll try the Fitbit ONE activity tracker because I can wear it discreetly.
I still have far to go…especially since my birthday made me fall off the healthy eating/working out daily wagon…but I have the tools to help me get there. Also, I am working on losing inches not weight. If getting healthy is a marathon, then I’m going to just keep on running! Thanks for all your encouragement!
