Looking for easy home decorating ideas? Me too! I love working on making my home more…me. I have found it doesn’t have to be super complicated or crazy expensive! And it doesn’t need to stress you out. The most interesting homes are the ones that express the owner’s personality.
I teamed up with Photowall to showcase ways to add accents to a house in both big and small ways. I found wallpaper, posters and prints that reflected my interests, vibe and home decorating ideas. They also gave me a discount code I can share with you. To receive a 20% discount and FREE SHIPPING, use Photowall promotional code: mamaliciousmaria20
6 Easy Home Decorating Ideas
1. Don’t be afraid to DIY.
I’m not a DIY kind of person. I’m more of somebody-else-do-it typically. But the tutorials on Photowall made me think that maybe I could pull it off. And while it did take me longer than it should have, and the final product wasn’t quite as seamless as it could have been, I did it. Adding this deep pop of color to my small office was bold, but I love it. I sit down there on my zoom calls, writing articles and hiding from my kids watching HBOMax, and I am inspired.

2. Pick an aesthetic.
You get to fill your home with art that reflects you. Try to decide what aesthetic speaks to you. What inspires you? What are your favorite colors, patterns, and textures? And you don’t have to be afraid to pick more than one style. You can mix it up with contemporary and glam, modern and farmhouse, or blend your own!
3. Create a focal point.
What do you want to catch someone’s eye when they first enter a room in your home? Large focal points like bay windows, fireplaces, or architectural details should be highlighted. In rooms like my office that are blank slates, think about how art can be the starting point for your decorating scheme.
4. Accent in both big and small ways.
Small accent elements will go a long way in personalizing your home’s decor. Throw pillows, floor pillows, and throw blankets are playful, cozy, and can be swapped out or moved whenever you feel like it. Draw attention to the floor by laying vibrant rugs, and make your windows look less bare with a set of flowing curtains.
5. Make your own art.
I spent time pouring through the Photowall website, looking at various types of art. There are masterpiece reproductions, nature portraits, travel photos, street art and so much more. There are so many options! One of the most intriguing things on this site is that you can create your art with your own photos or even inspirational sayings. You can also customize the art in terms of size, frame, border and other specifications. I made each piece I received precisely how I wanted it.
6. Be open to repurposing items.
Decorating doesn’t mean you have to buy everything new. Sure, you can shop for new furniture or fancy wall hangings or upgrade the items you already own with stylish new hardware or paint. Transform drab kitchen cabinets with decorative knobs. Use wallpaper to create a dramatic accent wall. Buy slipcovers to give new life to old furniture. Minor upgrades like these will make a difference. Even replacing simple pieces like old or broken outlet covers can make your space feel cleaner and more you without the hefty price tag.
