Heart disease in women is an epidemic. One in three women are killed each year because of heart disease and stroke. That’s one woman…one girlfriend…one sister…one daughter…one mother…every 80 seconds. But with education and preventative care we can change that! About 80% of cardiac and stroke events can be prevented! Will you prevent yours?
On National Wear Red for day, I am joining with Piedmont Healthcare in Atlanta to increase awareness of the severity of heart disease in women and support the preventative tools put in place so we as women can take charge of our heart. Don’t let heart disease win, ladies!
Preventing Heart Disease in Women
In Atlanta, Piedmont Healthcare has put together a comprehensive heart health prevention check-up especially for women. They know 90% of women are at risk for heart disease so their team of experts created a screening that goes well beyond what you’d get at a normal checkup, and gives you a detailed report with recommendations to keep your heart healthy. It’s just $100 and it could save your life. This screening is intended for women who do not have a pre-existing cardiac issue or an established cardiologist.
[Not in Atlanta, you can still schedule a Well-Woman Visit to get screened and learn how to prevent heart disease in women.]
What is the #PiedmontGoesRed Heart Disease in Women Screening?
As moms, we have a million things to do everyday but I am urging you to make your heart health a priority. Schedule this prevention check-up with one of the six convenient screening locations. You can schedule it online or call 404-491-8461.
During the screening, you will meet with a nurse practitioner to go through an individualized risk analysis that includes health history, a physical exam, labs, and an EKG. Each women will received a heart health report with recommendations and next steps. It will take about 90 minutes and costs $100. You’re worth the time. You’re worth the money.
Why I’m Going Red
I am not just talking the talk. I’m walking it right along too. I am doing my share to prevent heart disease in women by getting myself checked out this month (as well as encouraging you to do so too). I had some cardiac issues when playing basketball in college, but then I got busy and moved and had kids and moved more and had more kids and 10 years has gone by without a visit to a cardiologist. It’s time I assess my heart health and get real about some other factors that can affect my health as I near the end of my 30’s. Will you do it with me?
