What’s your parenting style? Do you have one? I thought I had this mom thing down pat… and then my oldest became a teenager. Now, I feel like I’m swimming in the deep end without any water wings and a lead weight wrapped around my chest. This is why the Center for Parent and Teen Communication is my best find so far this year. They get me.
Using science-based strategies, they offer real-world advice I can use in a straightforward way. Their daily emails with 100-word parenting tips are so useful. The tips are these bite-sized nuggets that are easy to remember and simple to put into action. I highly encourage anyone with teens (or tweens) to sign up for these emails. You won’t regret it!
The Best Parenting Style (in 100 words)
When I watched the Best Parenting Style animation, I really felt seen. I’m always trying to be the best mom… to do the right thing… to support, encourage, build up my kids. But, I could never figure out a parenting style that could do that. Free-range? No. Helicopter? Nope. Then I watched the animation that mentioned the “Lighthouse” parenting style and thought THIS is it!
- I want to be a beacon, leading my kids home.
- I want them to feel secure and safe.
- They should know if they look for me, I’ll be there.
I want to be a lighthouse.
Did the Best Parenting Style animation speak to you too? Or maybe one of the other ones? Check out these six animations from the Center for Parent and Teen Communication and then tell me your favorite. How did it help you?
