People in the North are laughing at how the Southerners are handling snow. But this is no laughing matter. Moms with babies were stuck on the freeway for 10 or more hours. And many still have not made it home, instead deciding to camp out on friend’s couches because they just couldn’t go anymore. Kids, some as young as kindergartners, stuck at school overnight. Scared, young kids who could be my own. Teachers having to make the horrible choice between helping the students they love and going after their own kids. Fathers hiking home 4-5 miles after their cars ran out of gas. Teen driver trapped in their cars becoming the frightened and cold as darkness approached. This is a crisis!
The good news is that people are helping people. Neighbors are reaching out to neighbors. Lovely people left a light on in case strangers needed a place to warm up. Churches, restaurants, stores like Target, Kroger, and Home Depot all stayed open all night inviting stranded motorists in for some warmth and shelter. Atlantans are coming together. But this is still a crisis. And it isn’t over. What are you doing to help?

Yes people are stranded. The roads are ice sheets and there are accidents everywhere. Gas stations are running out of gas. Every hotel is booked. Kids were left at school. Terrible.
